WHS Software for FMCG: Hold Your Safety System to the Same Standard as Your Product
SafeAlign scores your FMCG operation against the WHS Act and ISO 45001 across 10 elements, and turns the result into a traffic-light view your GM can read in 30 seconds.
- Built on 25+ years of hands-on Australian WHS consulting
- One set of questions, whether it's asked on the line, the dock or in the office
- Set up for you, with no rollout project in the middle of peak season
How do you know if your FMCG business is WHS compliant?
The same way you know your product meets spec, you measure it against a standard. SafeAlign measures your safety system against the WHS Act and ISO 45001. Team leaders answer guided questions on their phones between runs, and you see the result across 10 elements as green, amber and red.
FMCG businesses are used to scrutiny. Quality, food safety and customer audits come round on schedule, and the systems behind them are tight. WHS often isn’t held to the same bar; it lives in shift logs, a register someone updates when they can, and a different way of doing things at each site.
SafeAlign’s WHS compliance software gives WHS a measurable standard of its own. Know where you stand, then fix what matters first.
Why FMCG Operations Use SafeAlign
-
A number you can report upward.
Your GM or head office wants to know how safety is tracking. A score across 10 elements, shown as traffic lights, answers that without a three-day reporting scramble. -
Made for shift-based teams.
Team leaders and supervisors answer questions on a phone at the end of a run or during handover. Nobody leaves the line for a training session. -
A baseline that survives peak season.
When volumes spike and labour hire fills the roster, controls quietly weaken, the kind of drift our MICE Framework is built to catch. A system that scores the business, rather than depending on who's on shift, gives you a baseline to hold to. -
Setup is our job, not your ops team's.
Your planners are already juggling promotions and range changes. Fill in one form, we build the system, and we stay with you after go-live.
How SafeAlign Works
For FMCG Businesses
1. Assess Against The Standard
- The people who run your shifts answer structured questions aligned with the WHS Act and ISO 45001.
- One consistent question set produces a score across 10 elements.
2. See It The Way Leadership Wants It
- Traffic-light reports show where each element stands.
- Dashboards give site managers and head office the same picture.
3. Close Gaps In Priority Order
- Red items first, with actionable safety insights pointing to what to fix and every fix recorded as it's done.
- Review results alongside your quality and food safety reviews, the way you already run them.
4. Hold The Standard Through The Calendar
- Reassess as you take on bigger jobs or new trades, and see whether your fixes held.
Your safety position across the line, dock and office.
"Our Quality System Already Covers Safety"
Many FMCG businesses run an integrated management system, an inspection app on the floor, and a few safety checks folded into GMP walks. Those tools are good at what they were built for.
But a quality system is built around the product. The WHS Act is built around people: hazardous manual tasks, traffic management, fatigue, consultation. A hygiene walk that also glances down the forklift aisle shows a box was ticked, and compliance is not the same as control. We answer the question those walks can’t: does your safety system meet the Act? Keep the systems you have and add the one measure they weren’t designed to give.
And will people on shift actually use it? With turnover and labour hire, it’s a fair worry. SafeAlign keeps the process simple with guided questions on a phone, answered by team leaders who know the floor, with no configuration project required. We build it for you, so there’s nothing half-built for the next shift to ignore.
Ten Elements, One Score
FMCG safety sprawls: production lines, cold rooms, the dock, the DC, sanitation crews, contractors on the weekend shutdown. SafeAlign pulls it into a finite shape, with your safety system assessed across 10 elements and each one scored as a traffic light.
Green holds up. Amber needs attention. Red needs it first. Your managers get a shared list and a clear order, instead of each site deciding for itself what matters.
The questions come from decades of assessing Australian workplaces, so they’re the ones an experienced assessor would ask on your floor. If your plant or your distribution network runs as its own operation, our pages on WHS software for manufacturing, warehouse safety software and WHS for transport and logistics go deeper.
What the WHS Act Expects Across an FMCG Operation
FMCG combines high volumes, repetitive work and a workforce that changes with the season. These are the duty areas where that mix tends to open gaps:
-
Hazardous manual tasks.
Picking, palletising and repetitive line work put constant load on people's bodies. The WHS Regulations require you to identify these tasks, assess them and control the risk. -
Forklifts and pedestrians.
Busy docks and DCs mix mobile plant with people on foot. Traffic management needs to be planned, documented and checked, not left to habit. -
Labour hire and seasonal workers.
When an agency supplies workers, you and the agency both hold duties, and the WHS Act requires you to consult, cooperate and coordinate with each other. Peak-season casuals need the same induction and supervision as permanent staff. -
Shift work and fatigue.
Night shifts, extended runs and back-to-back rosters bring fatigue risk, which has to be managed like any other hazard. -
Sanitation chemicals and cold environments.
Cleaning chemicals need a register, safety data sheets and controls. Cold rooms and freezers bring exposure risks of their own.
SafeAlign doesn’t run your traffic plan or your inductions. It shows where your system covers these duties and where it doesn’t, scored and prioritised, with a record of every review and fix. It’s a better way to look at WHS gaps than a folder per site.
FAQs
Does SafeAlign cover the WHS laws in each state we operate in?
SafeAlign scores your business against the model WHS Act, which most Australian states and territories have adopted, and against ISO 45001. If your plant is in one state and your DC in another, both are measured against the same framework.
Can SafeAlign sit alongside our quality or food safety system?
Yes. We don’t replace your quality, food safety or inspection tools. We add the measure they don’t provide. ISO 45001 shares its structure with ISO 9001, so if you already run an ISO 9001 quality system, the logic will feel familiar.
Can our GM or head office see the results?
Yes. Results sit in desktop dashboards as traffic lights across 10 elements, so leadership can see the safety position at a glance instead of waiting for a monthly report.
Does SafeAlign help officers with due diligence?
Officers of an FMCG business carry a personal due diligence duty under the WHS Act, and “the site manager says we’re fine” isn’t enough. SafeAlign records each assessment, review and fix as it happens, building a timestamped record that the business took active steps.
