WHS Software for Construction: Prove Your Safety System, Not Just Your Last SWMS
SafeAlign scores your construction business against the WHS Act and ISO 45001 across 10 elements, so you see where your system stands before a head contractor's prequalification or an inspector does.
- Built by a team with 25+ years of hands-on Australian WHS consulting
- Measures the business behind your jobs, not just the paperwork on each one
- Your supervisors answer on their phones; we set the whole system up
How do you know if your construction business is WHS compliant?
Not by counting the SWMS on file. You find out by measuring the system behind them against what the WHS Act and ISO 45001 require. SafeAlign does that: supervisors and leading hands answer guided questions on their phones, and you see your position across 10 elements as green, amber or red.
Plenty of builders and subbies have paperwork for every job. What’s harder to show is how it adds up. Who checks it? How do gaps get closed? Does job six run to the same standard as job one?
Those are the questions a prequalification assessor or an inspector is really asking. SafeAlign’s WHS compliance software gives you a score for the business, not just the job, so you can answer them with evidence.
Why Builders and Subcontractors Use SafeAlign
-
One standard, whatever the job.
New site, new crew, new subbies. SafeAlign measures your safety system as a whole, so the standard doesn't reset every time you mobilise. -
Answered from the site shed, not the office.
Leading hands and supervisors work through guided questions on a phone during a break. No laptop, no training day. You review the full picture on desktop. -
Evidence in one place when prequal asks.
Head contractors, government clients and insurers want to see a working safety system before you win the work. Your scores, reviews and fixes sit in one place, not across emails, folders and the glovebox. -
Set up without stopping work.
You've got pours booked and a programme to hit. Fill in one form, we build your system, you go live, and we stay with you after.
How SafeAlign Works
For Construction Businesses
1. Score The Business, Not The Job
- Supervisors and managers answer structured questions aligned with the WHS Act and ISO 45001.
- Every answer feeds a score across 10 elements of your safety system.
2. See Your Gaps As Traffic Lights
- Reports show which elements are green, amber or red.
- A dashboard gives you the whole business at a glance, without building a spreadsheet.
3. Fix What Matters First
- Work through the red items before the amber ones, guided by SafeAlign's actionable safety insights, with each fix recorded as you go.
- Bring the results into your management reviews and toolbox talks.
4. Keep The Standard As You Grow
- Reassess as you take on bigger jobs or new trades, and see whether your fixes held.
Your safety position, from the site shed to the office.
"We've Already Got a SWMS App"
Most builders do an app for SWMS, a sign-in system for inductions, and a folder of prestart checklists. Keep them. They handle the paperwork each job needs.
What they don’t tell you is whether the business behind that paperwork meets the WHS Act. A signed SWMS shows a crew read the method for one task. SafeAlign shows whether your whole system holds up: who reviews the paperwork, how gaps get closed, and whether the standard is the same on every site. Having the paperwork and being in control are different things: compliance is not the same as control.
And will the crew actually use it? Fair question; crews are tired of apps and forms. SafeAlign doesn’t add another form per task. Your supervisors answer guided questions on the phone they already carry, and because we build the system for you, there’s no half-finished rollout for anyone to give up on.
Ten Elements, One Score
Construction safety never feels finished. There’s always another site, another subbie, another high-risk task. SafeAlign gives you an end point: your whole safety system assessed across 10 elements, each scored as a traffic light.
Green means that element holds up. Amber needs work. Red goes to the top of the list. It’s a better way to look at WHS gaps than a stack of job folders, and it gives you a list with an order to it.
The questions behind SafeAlign were written by people who have spent 25 years assessing Australian workplaces. They’re the ones an experienced assessor would ask about your business, not a generic template built for another country’s rules.
What The WHS Act Expects From A Construction Business
Construction has its own chapter in the model WHS Regulations. These are the duties prequalification assessors, principal contractors and inspectors look at closely, and where job-by-job paperwork can hide gaps in the system behind it:
-
Safe work method statements.
High-risk construction work needs a SWMS before it starts, and the work has to follow it. The real test is whether anyone checks it's being followed on site, the same field-based check at the heart of our MICE Framework. -
Principal contractor duties.
On construction projects worth $250,000 or more, the principal contractor carries extra duties, including a WHS management plan for the project. If you step into that role, your system has to carry the weight. -
Subcontractors and shared duties.
When several businesses work on one site, the WHS Act requires each to consult, cooperate and coordinate with the others. Handing a task to a subbie doesn't hand over your duty. -
Inductions and competency.
Workers need general construction induction training (the white card), plus the training and licences for the plant and tasks they're on. You need to be able to show it, not assume it. -
Consultation on site.
Toolbox talks, prestarts and HSR involvement are how most crews are consulted. If nothing is recorded, they're hard to count.
SafeAlign doesn’t write your SWMS or run your inductions. It shows where your system meets these obligations and where it falls short: scored, prioritised, and kept as a record that you checked. If you also run a yard or a fleet, our page on WHS software for transport and logistics covers that side.
FAQs
Does SafeAlign cover the WHS laws in my state?
SafeAlign measures your business against the model WHS Act, which most Australian states and territories have adopted, and against ISO 45001. If you run jobs across state lines, your business is scored against the same framework wherever you work.
Is SafeAlign a SWMS app?
No. SWMS apps help you prepare and sign method statements for each task. SafeAlign scores your whole safety system against the WHS Act and ISO 45001 across 10 elements, so you can see whether that paperwork sits inside a system that works.
Can SafeAlign help with subcontractor prequalification?
Prequalification asks you to show a working safety system. SafeAlign gives you a scored, recorded view of that system, so the answers you give a head contractor are backed by evidence rather than a best guess.
Does SafeAlign help directors with due diligence?
WHS due diligence is a personal duty for the officers of a construction business, and it can’t be handed to a site manager. SafeAlign records each assessment, review and fix as it happens, building a timestamped record that you took active steps on safety.
